Biography

Dr Robert A Byrne is an interventional cardiologist and Deputy Head of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases, Deutsches Herzzentrum, Munich, Germany. 

Dr Byrne graduated from University College Dublin and completed his PhD at the Technische Universität in Munich, Germany. 

Dr Byrne's research awards include the ESC Atherothrombosis Research Fellowship (2008), the TCT Thomas J. Linnemeier Young Investigator Award (2009) and the Andreas Grüntzig Research Prize of the German Cardiac Society (2016). His main research interests include antithrombotic therapy, DES development, drug-coated balloon therapy, OCT imaging, coronary restenosis and stent thrombosis, and medical device regulatory affairs. 

He is principal investigator or steering committee member in several clinical trials. Dr Byrne is a deputy editor at EuroIntervention, a board member of EAPCI and member of the ESC Regulatory Affairs and Congress Programme Committees.
